Hi there. I’m Jules. This is my personal blog.
Currently, I’m a freelance web & print designer for my own little company, Maas Publications, LLC.
I used to work for the City of Newcastle as a Special Event Producer, Microsoft System Center Marketing and, for a long time, eBay.com. From time to time I write a little bit about those places, but don’t be misled. This blog is NOT an official venue for any of the above mentioned companies.
This is my place to write. Because I like to. Because I want to. Because writing about the wonderful, fun, weird and horrible things in my life somehow helps me sort it all out. So, in-so-far as you may be asking, ‘what’s the point of this blog?’ That’s it.
Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, I lived 25 fairly sheltered years in the ‘Land of Enchantment’ before moving to the bright lights, big city of Salt Lake City, Utah. Six short years in Mormonland taught me everything I never wanted to know about porn; how to spot a fake Kate Spade purse in 30 words or less; and shocker of shockers, that gay people are not only REAL PEOPLE, they’re some of the BEST PEOPLE I have ever known.
(Also? I learned that when your mom says she’s looking for a hot fireman pinup for her computer background and you find it in FOR HER in the eBay adult site gay listings and then TELL HER WHY, she may just have learned a little more about you than she wanted.)
I’m married to an amazing extrovert, Travis. He’s the authority on cell phones, voicemail and how to be a damn fine husband. We live in Seattle with our Maine Coon cat, Algie. He’s the authority on sleeping, schmoozing and how to find that one spot of carpet that hasn’t ever been thrown up on before.
I write two other blogs: Aspire, Persevere & Indulge Not & the Maple Valley Journal, and am a brand-new columnist for the Covington Reporter.
Still curious? Here are 25 random things about me.
Why is your blog called ‘Stargazer’?
I started this blog during my last year at eBay, when I was really angry and pissed off and hurt. My badge symbol was Don Quixote, which was fitting not only because I really am an idealistic dreamer who chases windmills and contradicts herself all the damn time, but also because that’s kinda what got me into the position of being angry and pissed off and hurt.
But as blog names go, ‘Don Quixote’ wasn’t quite what I was looking for. So I pulled my trusty thesaurus off the shelf and decided on ‘Stargazer’. It covered the creative, idealistic dreamer part pretty well, while also giving a nice little nod to my life-long Elfquest obsession. Reading a post by Wil Wheaton a few years later, I realized it ALSO covers my geeky side. In a big, huge, my-god-I-forgot-what-a-Trekkie-I-was smack in the head kind of way. (’the Stargazer’ was Captain Picard’s 1st ship.)
What IS your deal with eBay?
Sooo, yeah. That’s a really big topic encompassing many, many good and bad experiences that had a HUGE impact on me – all of which require many more posts to explain, that should/will be written here sometime in the near future. The short answer is, it’s my second family. I love those folks and miss them a lot, so sometimes I get a little crazy-passionate when the subject comes up. Stay tuned.
